Any heating appliance is a health risk for its users. These are not natural and anything that is not natural is harmful for one’s health.

This is especially true for ceramic heaters. Most users have been injured badly due to ignorance about the health risks involved when using ceramic heaters.

Ceramic Heaters – Fire Hazard

The main health risk involved in ceramic heaters is fire. The most common causes of thermal burn injuries in children were due to hair irons, ovens and heaters. Most users are not knowledgeable about where they should keep the heater.

They will place their heating device in an area which does not provide proper ventilation to the appliance or leave it unattended. Placing the heater near flammable fabric such as curtains too will result in fire. When placing the ceramic heater, users should do so on a hard non flammable surface away from flammable objects or fabrics.

Burnings

More than 1660 injuries that occurred in 2008 were due heating appliances. However, these are the statistics of serious burns. But what about the minor burns which were not reported? These occurred mostly through touching a heater.

This was due to either improper balance of the appliance or the failure to unplug the power source before moving the heater. Most often, children are more prone to receive first degree burns by coming into contact with these appliances as well.

Carbon Monoxide

We are all familiar with the ill effects of carbon monoxide poisoning and how it occurs. Ceramic heaters which are too large for one’s home result in the depletion of oxygen. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Without your knowledge the toxic gas will enter the air and into your lungs.

The main reason for carbon monoxide poisoning through a ceramic gas heater is lack of ventilation. If the heater is not vented in the proper manner you can be assured that one of two things will happen. The heater will either catch on fire or it will invade your body while you are sleeping and kill you quietly.

As is plainly clear, ceramic heaters are a hazard to one’s health. However, so are all heaters. This is mainly due to lack of knowledge about the hazards involved. If consumers knew how to install the heaters properly and how to use it properly they will be able to ensure that ceramic heaters are not a health risk for them.
